Every incision leaves a scar, and how it matures depends on the procedure, your skin and the care it receives over months. Clinics give scar care instructions at discharge, but by the time they matter most, you are at home. This guide is about getting those instructions in a usable form and knowing when to ask for more.
Sun and everyday care
Clinics commonly stress sun protection over healing scars for many months and advise against picking, stretching or applying unapproved products. Ask how sun protection applies to your scar location and your climate at home.
Products and tapes
Silicone sheets or gels and pressure tapes are commonly recommended for certain scars. Ask whether they apply to yours, when to start and where to buy equivalents at home.
Follow-up and scar treatments
Ask how the clinic wants to follow scar maturation from abroad, what photographs to send and when, and at what point they would consider scar treatments such as laser or injections if healing is not as expected.
