Small-incision lenticule extraction is one of several laser methods used in Korea to correct short-sightedness and astigmatism. Whether it, or another method, suits your eyes is decided by a detailed pre-operative examination measuring corneal thickness, shape and prescription stability. The examination is the part visitors most often underestimate when planning.
Clinics run a series of measurements before recommending any method, and many ask you to stop wearing contact lenses for a period beforehand so the cornea returns to its natural shape. Ask how long the examination takes, what lens rest is required and whether the procedure can be scheduled in the same visit.
Ask why the clinic recommends this method over others for your corneas and prescription, what the alternatives would be if you are not suitable, and what the clinic says about dry eye, night vision and the possibility of enhancement later.
Examination, surgery and a next-day check are commonly scheduled within a few days, with further checks the clinic may want done locally at home. Ask when flying is appropriate and what to avoid in the first week, such as eye rubbing, water and makeup.
Method, whether both eyes are treated, examination fees, medication and follow-up. Ask whether enhancements are covered and for how long.
