Blepharoplasty in Korea

Upper and lower eyelid surgery planned as a trip: the consultation, the recovery pattern clinics describe, and the questions that make estimates comparable.

Blepharoplasty addresses excess skin, fat or laxity of the upper or lower eyelids. Upper blepharoplasty is often discussed alongside brow position; lower blepharoplasty involves fat, skin and the under-eye contour and may be approached from inside or outside the eyelid. The surgeon decides which; this guide helps you plan around the decision.

Upper versus lower: different conversations

Upper eyelid consultations focus on skin excess, crease position and whether the brow contributes to heaviness. Lower eyelid consultations focus on fat pads, skin quality and the transition to the cheek. Recovery patterns differ too, so ask separately about each if both are discussed.

Scarring and approach

Upper incisions usually sit in or near the crease; lower approaches may be inside the eyelid or just below the lashes. Ask where the incision would be for you, how it is expected to mature and what the surgeon does to minimise visibility.

The trip

Clinics typically plan an early check-up and stitch removal within the first week, with bruising and swelling described as settling over the following weeks. Ask when you may fly, wear contact lenses and resume screen-heavy work; plan accommodation with a spare day.

What moves the estimate

Upper, lower or both; fat repositioning versus removal; skin excision; anaesthesia; and included follow-up. Combination with a brow lift or double eyelid surgery changes the estimate and should appear as separate lines.

Questions for the surgeon

Is my heaviness eyelid skin or brow position? What approach do you recommend for the lower lid and why? What are the realistic limits for dark circles or hollows? What is the revision policy? How is dry eye or irritation managed if it occurs?

Coordination flow

  1. 1

Remote pre-assessment with photos the clinic requests, including eyes open, closed and looking up.

  2. 2

In-person consultations with a shared question list covering approach, scars and recovery.

  3. 3

Written estimates aligned line by line, including follow-up and revision terms.

  4. 4

Surgery, early check-up and departure clearance scheduled with recovery buffers.

Cost and scope notes

  • Upper and lower blepharoplasty are quoted separately; combined estimates should still show each.
  • Ask whether stitch removal and follow-up visits are included.
  • Coordination is quoted per case and separate from clinic charges.

Patient questions

What to clarify before you travel

These answers are coordination guidance, not medical advice. Final treatment decisions should be confirmed directly with the treating provider.

Is there visible scarring after blepharoplasty?

Incisions are placed in natural folds or inside the eyelid where possible, and surgeons describe them maturing over months. Ask your surgeon where the incision would be and how it is expected to look at each stage.

What is the difference between upper and lower blepharoplasty?

Upper blepharoplasty addresses skin and fat of the upper lid and crease; lower blepharoplasty addresses under-eye fat, skin and contour. They are assessed and recovered from differently, and can be quoted together or apart.

How much does blepharoplasty cost in Korea?

It depends on whether upper, lower or both lids are treated, the technique, anaesthesia and follow-up. Request a written itemized estimate after the consultation and compare inclusions rather than totals.

How long before I can fly home?

The surgeon sets this after surgery, usually after an early check-up. Book flights with flexible terms and keep a spare day in the plan.
